ZE Twerd – Beneficiary of the Smart Growth Operational Programme

Date of publication: 12.01.2018

We are pleased to inform you that the company “Zakład Energoelektroniki TWERD Michał Twerd” is a beneficiary of the Smart Growth Operational Programme and has received funding under POIR, Measure 1.1, for the implementation of the project:

“Modular Power Electronics System for Sustainable Energy Management from Renewable Sources with Energy Storage Function for Household and Industrial Applications.”

According to estimates, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power plants in Poland increased by over 800% in 2015 compared to 2014. It is also estimated that 98% of the total installed capacity of photovoltaic systems in the country was built during 2014–2015. In this context, the main objective of the project is to design and build an innovative power electronics system – new to the Polish market – that enables the integration of renewable energy sources (particularly photovoltaic systems) installed at individual and industrial electricity consumers (households and industrial plants), as well as energy storage units, with the national power grid. The system will allow sustainable and efficient management of energy obtained from RES (Renewable Energy Sources), primarily for the consumer’s own needs, making them independent from local energy suppliers. It will also enable energy transfer to the distribution grid for commercial purposes, such as during peak demand hours or to support grid energy balancing. The developed system’s advantages will include its comprehensive nature and wide range of functions, compared to existing products on the market. Among its many features, the most important will be: ultra-fast scanning of PV plant power characteristics with a global maximum power point tracking algorithm,
enhanced immunity to power grid disturbances and voltage dips, local reactive power balancing, parallel connection of 20 kVA modules (scalability), uninterrupted access to electricity through grid-tied or autonomous operation for consumer needs.
